About the Portraits

I draw people because I admire them in some way and I choose to draw those who have struggled and yet prevailed.

I use primarily graphite pencil to draw portraits of significant men and woman such as Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill who have changed the course of history and influence others  through their heroism, courage, perseverance and faith especially in the face of setbacks and weaknesses. I also draw some less well known people, such as Hudson Taylor, a missionary to china, Desmond Doss and Grandma Moses. Most of what inspires me about the people i choose to draw is their victories and perseverance in the face of difficult circumstances or pressing obstacles. These people range from leaders and  artists to missionaries and mothers. My pencil portraits are a growing collection of visual biographies. I typically can complete a portrait in a week.  I am a self taught artist and didn’t start my collection of portraits and serious drawing until about 3 years ago. Although i have played around with art my entire life, i was always afraid of drawing faces ,but secretly really wanted to. I love when people ask, “who is that?” because it is evidence that I am honoring memories of people who are worth remembering. and then of course I tell them.
